About Zebra Pen
Zebra Pen is a global stationery brand known for its high-quality pens, markers, and creative writing tools. As customers shifted toward online shopping, despite strong in-store sales, Zebra Pen saw the need to expand beyond retail and build a more competitive digital storefront.
When they set up their e-commerce site, it lacked the performance, design structure, and strategic direction needed to stand out in a competitive online retail space. They were facing low discoverability due to a cluttered product layout and missed opportunities to engage and convert digital buyers. Our goal was to help Zebra Pen establish a strong foundation for e-commerce success.

Challenges Ahead for Zebra Pen

Low E-commerce Visibility
Zebra Pen sells through its own website, but when most people think of buying pens online, they run to Amazon or big-box retailers like Walmart and Staples by default because these platforms dominate search results and are highly regarded for faster shipping, more reviews, and trusted buying experiences.
Difficulty in Standing Out
Today’s buyers, whether Gen Zs, students or artists, want more than just a pen that works. TikTok and Instagram have made stationery aesthetic. Zebra has a foot in this world, but their website, brand voice, and UX don’t lean into this trend enough. Meanwhile, faster shipping expectations and curated buying experiences are raising the bar.
Cluttered Product Lineup
Zebra offers a wide range of products, including gel pens, highlighters, brush pens, etc. While there is a lot of variety, which is good but many items look visually similar and without strong category navigation, filters, or comparison tools, users can easily get confused or frustrated. This was directly impacting conversion rates and increasing bounce rates.
Solutions We Offered
We began by replatforming them to Shopify, because for an ecommerce business like Zebra to compete with retailers that ship faster and launch cleaner, they needed a system built for retail logic. Shopify gave us that flexibility to build a competent store. But we were not aiming to be merely competent. To surpass the benchmark set by larger retailers, we had to solve a few very specific problems. We restructured Zebra’s catalogue to keep up with frequent product additions and size variations. We designed their homepage to prominently highlight campaigns, seasonal pushes, and rotating brand content, without needing custom dev work every time.
Final Outcome
Shopify Success
- Site maintenance became 60% quicker, freeing up internal resources.
- Mobile sales grew noticeably due to improved responsiveness and speed.
- 15% boost in email-driven revenue through integrated, targeted cart recovery flows.
- SEO improvements pushed multiple product pages into the top three Google results.
- 50% growth in average session duration as customers engaged more with product content.
- Decreased Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) from 4.5 seconds to under 2.5 seconds.
Conversion & Retention
- Conversion rates jumped by nearly 30% within three months.
- Repeat customers rose, showing better loyalty and satisfaction.
